Google's Discontinuation of Pixel Pass Sparks Disappointment Among Subscribers

In a surprising twist, Google has halted its Pixel Pass subscription program, a move that has left subscribers feeling let down. Rolled out alongside the Pixel 6 series in October 2021, Pixel Pass was designed to offer users an all-encompassing experience, combining premium services, device protection, and regular device upgrades into a single monthly payment. However, recent communications from Google have revealed that new subscriptions and renewals for Pixel Pass are no longer an option.

While existing subscribers are assured that their benefits will remain intact throughout their subscription period, the news has still stirred dissatisfaction among some members of the Google Pixel subreddit. Concerns have been raised over the potential loss of previous discounts and bundled services enjoyed by subscribers.

One of the main draws of the Pixel Pass program was the promise of seamless device upgrades after two years. Unfortunately, this pledge now appears uncertain, particularly with the upcoming launch of the Pixel 8 lineup on October 4th.

The highly-touted "regular device upgrades" feature, which was a cornerstone of the Pixel Pass offering, has been debunked. This holds true even for early Pixel 6 adopters who were looking forward to their upcoming upgrade eligibility. While Google's discontinuation of products and services is not unheard of, the timing of this announcement has garnered attention for its unfortunate timing.

Initially launched with the Pixel 6 series, the Pixel Pass promotion continued through the unveiling of the Pixel 7 lineup. However, as early as May this year, the Pixel Pass Twitter account indicated that the package would not be extended to the Pixel Fold device. This aligns with the reasoning provided to current Pixel Pass subscribers this week.
